Our Motivation

Remember, Document, Remind

Throughout history, the exercise of state power has also been a history of repression, political justice, persecution, and the violation of fundamental human rights. From early modern witch trials and oppression in absolutist states to National Socialist terror, the systemic injustice of the GDR, and contemporary controversies: laws, judicial systems, and state surveillance tools have time and again been deployed to break or silence dissidents, political opponents, minorities, or individuals.

PolitischeVerfolgung.de was created out of the conviction that this injustice must neither gather dust in archives nor fall into oblivion. Our goal is to provide an independent, transparent, and historically grounded documentation archive that makes the mechanisms and fates of political prosecution tangible.

What We Stand For

  • Independence: We are not affiliated with any political party, authority, or interest group. Our work relies on facts, historical sources, and the reconstruction of biographical and institutional processes.
  • Education & Awareness: Anyone who wants to understand how civil liberties erode or how totalitarian systems emerge must look to history. State tyranny and judicial injustice must be exposed historically and socially.
  • Remembrance of the Victims: Behind every record, every verdict, and every act of prosecution are real people—victims of conflicts of conscience, political persecution, and state violence. Giving them a documentary voice is the central mission of this portal.

This archive is continuously growing and is intended to serve researchers, journalists, and anyone interested in history as a reliable reference work. If you have questions, information, or corrections regarding individual articles, we welcome you to contact us.
